Noble Durwood “Lane” Marshburn was born in Jacksonville, NC on January 21, 1965 to Durwood and Inez Marshburn of Richlands, NC. He grew up in the 9 Mile community and graduated from Richlands High School in 1983. He had enlisted in the North Carolina Army National Guard in 1982 and served 4 years. He lateralled to the United States Coast Guard and served 28 more years. Noble Lane was selected as the Distinguished Honor Graduate in both Army and Coast Guard Basic Training and his Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy Class. During his time in the Coast Guard, Lane was stationed in numerous locations throughout the United States and beyond. He patrolled the Bering Sea in support of fisheries and search and rescue, the Eastern Pacific as part of a tactical law enforcement team and he completed a tour in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Over his career, Lane received many personal awards, served over 10 years at sea, and received an Associates Degree from Vincennes University. In 2019, Lane retired as Officer in Charge of Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach, NC. He currently works for the City of Wilmington as a supervisor in the Stormwater Division. Noble Lane is ordained through American Marriage Ministries.

 

Noble Lane is married to the former Sherry McLean of Snead’s Ferry. They were high school sweethearts and were married after their graduation from high school. Sherry works as a Driver Settlement Specialist for Suddath Relocations based out of Jacksonville, FL. She is an active member of both the Ladies of the Wilmington Shrine and Pender County Shrine Clubs. They have 2 adult sons, Buddy and Thad. Buddy lives in San Francisco with his wife Ali and their two children, Wolf and Wren. Thad and his wife Madison live in Wilmington. Lane is an avid surfer and has been the Wrightsville Beach Longboard Association (WBLA) Vice President for 2 years. The WBLA is a non-profit which seeks to help its coastal community citizens through charity and scholarships. Lane and Sherry are USO volunteers and enjoy serving the young Marines Christmas Day dinner in the field at Camp Geiger, NC.

 

Lane’s Masonic journey started in September of 2019. He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on his birthday January 21, 2020 at Wilmington #319 and is currently the Senior Deacon. He crossed the “Cold Sands” of the Sudan Shrine on December 19, 2020 in Dunn, NC.  Lane is a member of the Wilmington Shrine Club and is the Conductor of the Sudan Shriner’s Choo Choo. He is also a member of the Pender County Shrine Club and served as Vice President and Fish Fry Chairman.

 

Lane is humbled and honored to be appointed Outer Guard and is looking forward to working with Divan members to support Shrine Children and the Nobility.
