George L. Raecher was born on January 28, 1948 in Salamanca, NY to George H. & Mary Raecher. He is the second of four children. He graduated from high school in 1966 and a year later enlisted in the United States Air Force. He received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice while in the military. He retired from the USAF in January 1988 after serving over 20 years with several military awards including the Viet Nam Cross for Gallantry, the Air Force Accommodation Medal and two Meritorious Service Medals. He returned to Wayne County, his wife’s home. In August 1988 he was hired by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and worked 18 years as a criminal investigator. In 2008 he retired as a Major and the Chief of Investigations, in charge of Criminal Investigations, Drug Squad, and the School Resource Officers. In October 2008, he was hired by the Wayne County ABC Board as the Chief of ABC Law Enforcement, where he remained until 2013 retiring with a total 47 years in law enforcement. He is a member of the North Carolina Homicide Investigators Association and has served on several civic boards and church committees.
George’s Masonic journey began in 1982 at Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls, Montana at Delta Lodge #128. He was raised to the sublimed degree of a Master Mason in October 1982. He has been the Master of Goldsboro Lodge #634 in 2015, and 2017 through 2021. He crossed the “Hot Sands” in 1998 and joined Sudan Shriners and the Wayne Shrine Club, serving as President in 2001, 2002, 2007, 2023 and 2024. He joined the Sudan Mini Rigs in 2000 and served as Captain in 2008 and 2009. He has served on the Shrine Club Board of Directors for 24 years and Chair of the Fish Fry for 23 years. In 2012 he was appointed as the Director of Public Relations and Editor of the Sudan Red Fez quarterly magazine. During this period, Sudan has won five Dromedary Awards from Shriners International. In 2014 he was elected Recorder for Sudan Shriners. In October 2016, he was elected to the New Bern Court, Royal Order of Jesters #145. In August 2016 he received the NC Grand Lodge “Certificate of Meritorious Service” from Grand Master of Masons in North Carolina. A. Gene Cobb. In 2018 & 2019 he was appointed as the Chaplain for Shriners International Recorders Association. In January 2020 he was presented Shriners International, “Imperial Potentate’s Medallion” from Imperial Sir Jim Cain.
George is married to the former Janice Moore of Seven Springs and they have three married daughters and six grandchildren. George remains very active in community and church committees and activities. George is proud and honored to have been elected as only the eleventh Sudan Recorder in one hundred years. He vows to continue to work hard for this greatest fraternity in the world and Shriners Children’s.
