Samuel Stacey Pugh was born on April 28, 1968 to Samuel H. and Carol G. Pugh. He is the oldest of four children. He was born in Greenville, NC and continues to reside in Pitt County and is currently living in the Grimesland community. He received his education from D. H. Conley High School and East Carolina University. He grew up in the family business where he started working at an early age. He rode to work with his dad in the summers before he could even drive and would pump gas and wash cars. Stacey is now President and CFO of Pugh’s Tire and Service Center, Inc., a fourth generation tire and automotive business started by his grandfather in 1945. He, along with four other family members, oversee the day to day operations of six stores in Pitt, Beaufort and Martin Counties.
Stacey is married to Danette Braxton Pugh. They have two children, Noble Samuel Colby Pugh and Morgan Leanne Pugh. Stacey is a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Greenville where he has served on the Deacon Board and as Church Treasurer.
Stacey was raised a Master Mason by his father-in-law, Edward Braxton on February 9, 1995 at Crown Point Lodge #708, AF & AM. On April 29, 1995 he joined the York Rite Masonic Bodies. On May 13, 1995 he joined Sudan Shriners crossing the hot sands in Morehead City, NC. He was elected to the Royal Order of Jesters, New Bern Court No. 145 on October 22, 2005 and currently serves as an elected line officer. He joined the Provost Guard Unit in June, 1995 and served as Captain in 2005 and 2006. He became a member of the Sudan Desert Rats in 2006. He served as Potentate’s Aide in 2000 and 2007. Stacey also served as Divan Aide to Ralph Wingate from 2001 until Ralph’s death in 2007. He served on the Shrine Bowl Board of Governors, Member at Large in 2004 and 2005. He was appointed in 2014 by the Imperial Potentate serving in the role of Imperial Outer Guard’s Aides member and in 2015 serving in the role of Imperial Captain of the Guard’s Aides member.
He has been a member of the Pitt County Shrine Club since 1995, served as President in 2002, served two terms on the Board of Directors and was voted “Shriner of the Year” in 2002. Stacey and his wife Danette started the Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas with Santa party back in 2002 and have chaired these two activities for the past 15 years.
In 2008, Stacey had the honor of being appointed Outer Guard of Sudan Shriners by Illustrious Sir Bobby Waller and has served on the Divan for the past 9 years. He is honored to serve as the 100th Potentate on the Centennial Anniversary of Sudan Shriners. Stacey’s slogan for the year is THEIR HOPE – OUR CAUSE – LET’S ROLL. He wants to have fun in 2017 with a purpose – it’s all about the kids. Danette’s theme for the year is THE STORY BEHIND THE SHOE. We all have a story and we all wear shoes but our Shriners patients have a really special story which makes their shoes extra special. Their passion has always been the children of Shriners Hospitals for Children.
