Carl W. Smith

Illustrious Sir Carl Wayne Smith was born on January 24, 1967 in Burlington, NC to James (Jay) Smith and Frances Smith.  Carl grew up in several towns but spent the majority of his childhood in New Bern and Wilson, NC where he graduated high school from J.B. Hunt Jr. High School.  After high school, Carl attended Campbell University.  In 1989, he joined his father and brothers in the family auction business.  In 1999, Carl and his partner started Eastern Environmental Management LLC, a full service environmental clean-up company.

Illustrious Sir’s masonic journey began when he was raised as a Master Mason on March 3, 1993 at Queen City Lodge #602.  In 1997, he served as Master of the Lodge.  On May 15, 1993, he crossed the Sudan Hot Sands in Fayetteville NC, and subsequently joined the Rocky Mount Shrine Club.  He has held many positions in the Rocky Mount Shrine Club, serving on the Board of Directors, treasurer, and shrine club president in 1998.  In 1998, he assisted in co-founding the Sudan Prowlers where he served as captain from 2000-03. In 1994, 2010 and 2014 he received the honor of “Shriner of the Year” from the Rocky Mount Shrine Club.  Noble Carl is a member of the New Bern Court Royal Order of Jesters # 145.

Noble Carl is married to Janet Jackson of Rocky Mount.  Janet is an internal auditor for BB&T and a member of the Rocky Mount Shrinettes.  She is the daughter of Felix and Linda Jackson of Rocky Mount NC.  Together Carl and Janet have 3 children, Brandon, Jessica and Bailey.  They reside in their home on the outskirts of Nashville, NC.

Illustrious Sir’s passions are his family and shrine family.  He enjoys spending time with his family and friends and seeing that everyone is having a good time.  Having served on the Sudan Divan line since 2011, he feels privileged in having the honor of Potentate of Sudan Shriners bestowed upon him.  Carl and Janet are looking forward to working with the Divan, Nobility and Ladies in its causes throughout Eastern NC and for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Potentate Smith’s theme this year is “Giving Hope – Fulfilling Dreams in 2019”.   He feels this statement is the embodiment of a Shriner.  Giving Hope to Children in need and Fulfilling Dreams in helping our children aspire to do anything they desire.
